It’s the last week of our Year In Industry vlog takeover and the fifth interview is with Alex who is undertaking an operations placement, like James who we heard from first. Another student called James and Suleman both spoke to us about their commercial placements.
Alex started at Sylvester Street in Sheffield, a 335 apartment build-to-rent project, spent some time at Crown Place Nottingham, a 427 bed student accommodation scheme, and then came to work at Bessemer Park Phase 2. This is a Net Zero Industrial project comprising four facilities; they were barely steel frames in June when we spoke to Alex, but now they’re fully clad.
Alex who is studying for Construction Management at Sheffield Hallam University talks about his role; he worked on the foundations and ducting, which means marking out the correct positions, liaising with the subcontractors to provide the information for the next task and examining that the work has been undertaken correctly. We also asked him about the challenges he’s faced and what he’s most enjoyed about his time as a Trainee Site Engineer with Winvic. And the best thing about Winvic? “The people are just friendly and happy to help… here you get hands on, you get to see it and then you get to do it, which has helped me learn a lot.”
If a hands-on approach to gaining a construction qualification is right for you, head to our careers pages, where you’ll find details on different placements, our Year In Industry programme and Apprenticeships or email training@winvic.co.uk.
