The scheme forms part of the 344-hectare extension to DIRFT III – enabling up to 850m long trains to carry freight in and out of the logistic park – and comprises significant earthworks, 79,000m2 concrete terminal slab, 9km rail track networked to the existing terminal and the West Coast Mainline, and three complex bridges.

The Intermodal Rail Freight Terminal comprises a five track siding and a vast storage yard. The terminal is connected to the existing terminal and the West Coast Mainline, which traverses the A5 trunk road and a water course. In addition to these two bridges, the construction of a third structure will ensure pedestrians and cyclists have continued access over the new railway lines via a bridleway.
