The scheme included resurfacing and signal upgrades to Newland, between Carholme Road and Mint Street, as well as sections of Wigford Way, Mint Lane, and Lucy Tower Street. The project aimed to enhance multiple assets by excavating and rebuilding the entire road in sections. 4,500 tonnes of material were utilised during the project.

Works included resurfacing and redevelopment of both the existing carriageway and pathways. Associated drainage systems, kerbing, and channel repairs were carried out to ensure the longevity and stability of the infrastructure. Carriageway markings were also refreshed as part of the works.

  • Placement of over 4,500 tonnes of road-building materials
  • Repairing 275 metres of highways drainage and the installation of 30 new traffic signals at the Lucy Tower Street/Newland and Carholme Road/Brayford Way junctions
  • Over a mile of new footway constructed
  • 1.2km of new kerbing laid
  • 575 feet of traffic signal wires and traffic signal ducting installed

The scheme began in April 2024, with an original completion date set for November 2024. However, the works were completed ahead of schedule in late July. This early completion allowed us to take on additional works, including footpath, drainage, and carriageway upgrades further down Carholme Road, which were finished in September – still two months ahead of the original schedule.

Social Value

Winvic delivered significant social value on Newland, engaging local schools through career talks and an art project, showcasing pupils’ artwork on the site hoardings.

Additionally, we donated copies of the ‘When I Grow Up’ book to local school children, sponsored the Greenbank JFC U9s football team, and installed defibrillators on city centre site hoardings.

These initiatives have positively impacted the local community, promoted education, health, and sports, and reinforced our commitment to creating long-term value beyond our projects.
