You may have caught James’ vlog earlier in the week – the first of our catchups with our Year In Industry students as their experiences came to a close. Today, it’s time to meet Jacob who is studying Quantity Surveying at Loughborough University and undertook a commercial placement with us.
Jacob was interested in construction but didn’t know what a quantity surveyor role was until family friend suggested it. He wanted a maths orientated role, it sounded right and he hasn’t looked back since starting his Quantity Surveying degree at Loughborough University.
He worked at our Peddimore industrial project at first when the steel frame was being erected and he moved to Symmetry Park in Rugby. When we spoke to Jacob in June, the first two industrial units at the 111-acre site were almost complete and work was commencing on the next two. He says that he got to grips with many intricate processes and he’s really enjoyed how his role working on the commercial aspects of a project – from monthly subcontractor payments to calculating materials costs – has been site and team-based. So much so he stayed with us right up until he has to start his final university year!
