Christmas morning in East Yorkshire was extra special for hundreds of children, thanks to a heart-warming initiative by the team overseeing the M62 Ouse Bridge repairs – Winvic and VSL. The teams successfully raised £915 for the Goole Toy Appeal, ensuring children in the area experienced the joy of receiving toys and gifts during the festive season.
Led by the Goole branch of HEY Credit Union in collaboration with Two Rivers Community Pantry and the Goole Times, the appeal strives to bring happiness to every child in the region. The Ouse Bridge team, inspired by The Goole Times’ senior reporter Emily Collins, swiftly took action, achieving this fundraising milestone within a week.
John Stebbing, National Highways Project Manager said “It’s really important to us at National Highways that we can give something back to the communities in which we work, and we cannot thank our contractor teams Winvic Construction and VSL enough for raising so much to bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of young people in Goole on Christmas Day. This is a fantastic cause, and we’re very proud of everyone who has helped make this possible.”
Howard Taylor, Framework Manager at Winvic Construction Ltd, emphasised Winvic’s commitment to supporting local communities, saying, “Winvic is dedicated to supporting the communities in which we work and live. After hearing about the Goole Toy Appeal, we were compelled to contribute. A heartfelt appreciation goes to VSL and every team member who rallied to raise a total of £915, ensuring every child’s holiday wish comes true this Christmas.”
The generous donation from the Ouse Bridge team complemented toy collections prepared by various organisations in the area, creating a festive atmosphere at the Two Rivers Community Pantry. The funds enabled the purchase of toys in age ranges with fewer donations, ensuring that children of all ages received thoughtful gifts.
This initiative reflects National Highways and its supply chain community’s commitment to supporting communities in Yorkshire and the North East during the festive season. In addition to the Goole Toy Appeal, teams have been actively collecting gifts for the Salvation Army and the Trussell Trust, ensuring that those in need experience the warmth of the holiday season.
