Winvic Construction Ltd has reached completion of Greenbox Darlington, delivering over 400,000 sq ft of top-tier sustainable, Grade A logistics and industrial space in the North-East.
This completion represents a significant milestone for Greenbox, an innovative joint venture platform built by Partners Group, one of the largest firms in the global private markets industry, in conjunction with Citivale, a specialist logistics Developer and Asset Manager. Greenbox provides best-in-class logistics infrastructure that represents responsible ESG policies and exceptional sustainability practices.
The official completion ceremony took place on Wednesday 5 March and was celebrated by the wider project team, including Partners Group, Citivale, and Winvic Construction alongside agents and interested parties. Citivale’s Chief Executive, James Appleton-Metcalfe commented on the development’s journey from concept to completion. Also present were Tees Valley Mayor Lord Houchen of High Leven; Councillor Steve Harker, Leader of Darlington Borough Council and Councillor Chris McEwan, Deputy Leader and Economy Portfolio Holder of Darlington Borough Council.
Greenbox Darlington comprises three prime industrial units, ranging from 84,000 sq ft, to 213,000 sq. ft. Designed to create a lasting positive impact, each unit embodies Greenbox’s ongoing commitment to responsible ESG policies and exceptional sustainability practice, achieving Net Zero Carbon in Construction and Operation alongside an EPC ‘A’ and BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, setting a standard for how the commercial real estate sector can tackle the climate crisis and improve the sector’s environmental credentials.
Throughout construction, Greenbox placed an emphasis on environmental stewardship and energy efficiency, achieving this through the development of a green supply chain collaboration and accompanying on-site initiatives.
As a result, Greenbox Darlington stands as a model for the delivery of energy-efficient, future-ready buildings thanks to its implementation of new innovative technologies and sustainable construction methods. Greenbox has pioneered the use of Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) at its Darlington site, achieving an 44 tCO2e reduction over 22 weeks onsite. This lower-carbon fuel alternative reduces emissions during construction, minimising reliance on carbon-intensive fossil fuels and promoting the use of sustainable technologies.
Strategically positioned within close proximity to both the A66, and the key arterial A1(M) route, Greenbox Darlington provides excellent road access for both national and local occupiers. Stockton-On-Tees, Middlesbrough, and Durham are all within a 30-minute drive, while the nearby Teesside International Airport, as well as the ports of Hartlepool, Sunderland, along with the Freeport of Teesside allow occupiers of the site easy access to global markets via premier low-carbon and renewable locations, helping to build better, more sustainable futures for the UK supply chain.
Marketed by leading property agents Savills and HTA Real Estate, units at Greenbox Darlington offer 50m yard depths and 50Kn per m2 floor loading, delivering bespoke spaces tailored to individual occupiers’ specific requirements.
James Appleton-Metcalfe, CEO at Citivale, commented: “We are delighted to have celebrated the official completion of Greenbox Darlington alongside our partners and important local stakeholders.
“Greenbox Darlington embodies our commitment to delivering sustainable, Grade A industrial and logistics space that meets the evolving needs of modern businesses and we are proud to deliver pioneering energy-efficient developments that set new industry standards for environmental responsibility.
“By targeting Net Zero Carbon in Construction and Operation, we have not only reduced emissions, but also empowered our prospective occupiers to operate more sustainably from day one.
“We are proud to deliver a greener future for the commercial real estate sector and will continue to demonstrate that sustainability and high-performance industrial spaces can go hand in hand.”
Danny Nelson, Managing Director – Industrial, Distribution & Logistics at Winvic, added: “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Winvic, and partnering with Greenbox has provided a fantastic opportunity to drive innovation in sustainable industrial development. Greenbox Darlington showcases our shared commitment to delivering best-in-class, energy-efficient logistics space that meets the highest ESG and sustainability standards. We are immensely proud to have played a key role in delivering this Net Zero Carbon development, ensuring sustainability was embedded at every stage through active collaboration with our Green Supply Chain partners.”
