Winvic Set to Share Insights on ‘Zero-Carbon Buildings & Developments’ at ESG Edge Conference

Posted on October 29, 2024 in Sustainability

Winvic Construction Ltd’s Technical Services and Sustainability Director, Arun Thaneja, is one of the panellists on the opening discussion at the inaugural ESG Edge Conference on Tuesday, 12 November, which is being held at the Hilton Bankside in London. Winvic is also exhibiting at the event and will be sharing its ESG best practice insights with the conference attendees.

Thaneja will join three other participants on the Insights Panel entitled ‘Zero-Carbon Buildings & Developments – Achieving the UK’s 2050 Target’, to talk about the strategies and innovations needed for the property sector to meet the ambitious UK government goal.

Flora Harley, Head of ESG Research at Knight Frank, Cathy Myatt, Head of ESG at Chancerygate and Ben Pettitt, Real Estate Sector Lead at IES – and Winvic’s Thaneja – will together explore the UK’s current and future policies aimed at promoting zero-carbon buildings, discuss innovations in construction technologies and analyse the economic benefits of zero-carbon buildings.

As Winvic is a champion of ensuring a Just Transition to a sustainable future, Thaneja is expected to also highlight the importance of the Social aspect of ESG. He said: “No one should be left behind in this very important transition period, so as well as working hard to find ways to reduce carbon, we need to work with communities and engage a whole range of stakeholders.”

Thaneja will also be bringing his expertise to numerous roundtables as part of Winvic’s position as the sole main contractor representing the construction industry on the Advisory Board of the Policy Liaison Group (PLG) on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). His impressive ESG credentials also include his involvement in the development of the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC) guidance on carbon offsetting and associated carbon pricing to support the shift towards Net Zero buildings, and he has held a BREEAM Accredited Professional accreditation since 2008.

Thaneja continued: “Winvic’s focus on the reduction of embodied and operational carbon in buildings began many years ago and while we’re proud to have led the way in many areas, there’s always more to be done. The development of our unique Green Supply Chain illustrates that we can make large scale carbon reductions through collaboration and engagement with multiple stakeholders. It’s events like this new ESG Edge Conference which support that ethos, and I applaud that. I’m looking forward to sharing my knowledge on standards and guidance and explaining some of the innovative technologies that Winvic is using, such as a Li-Ion battery storage centre which provides diesel-free power to a construction site. It should be an insightful day all round.”

The leading main contractor that specialises in the design and delivery of private and public sector construction and civil engineering projects, is also a finalist in two ESG Edge Awards categories. Plot 5 at SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway (SLPEMG) has made the shortlist for ESG New-Build Project of the Year (Large) and Winvic’s Green Supply Chain (GSC) is up for the Education & Awareness Initiative award. The company has sponsored the ESG Developer of the Year Award.
