Winvic regularly supports ‘Take Your Child to Work Day’ as part of our engagement with young people.
Eden Salmons who enjoys dancing and keeping active when not at Southfield School for Girls, spent the day at Winvic learning what her mum Heidi Salmons does as Head of Marketing, Communications & Social Responsibility at Winvic. Eden got the chance to shadow her mum in the office at Moulton Park, Northampton, and then out on-site at a nearby construction and civil engineering project, SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton where she was given a tour of the impressive site that will house over 5 million sq ft industrial space as and a new strategic rail freight interchange.
Eden shared her thoughts: “It was fascinating to witness my Mum’s work. I particularly enjoyed trying my hand at Winvic’s social media posts and witnessing the construction of new rail tracks and a tunnel near the M1 on Winvic’s site.”
The purpose of “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is to offer 8-16-year-olds an insight into the working environment and the significance of going to work.
Richard Goswell, Key Stage 3 Progress Leader at Southfield School, emphasised, “The aim of the day visit is to raise our student’s awareness, and give them a valuable experience, of the world of work.”
Winvic was thrilled that Eden chose to spend the day with her mother. Rebecca Schwarz, Winvic’s Head of HR & Training, expressed, “We believe ‘Bring Your Child to Work Day’ will open doors and expand awareness of potential careers in the construction sector. Often, children return to school and share their experiences in the classroom, creating opportunities to promote roles for women in construction.”
Heidi enjoyed the day at work with her daughter, stating, “Thank you, Winvic, for allowing me to bring Eden to work. It provided her with a glimpse into Winvic’s operations and offered insight into the construction sector!”
