At a glance

  • Project value: £1.9m
  • Client: Lincolnshire County Council
  • Programme: 14 week
  • Completion: October 2025

Works along Carholme Road and the A46 Carholme Roundabout comprised complex highway upgrades between Nelson Street and the A57 Saxilby Road, including adjoining side roads.

Over the four-and-a-half-month programme, more than 4,300 tonnes of road-building material was laid to reconstruct and resurface the carriageway, complemented by 800m² of new footway construction.

Drainage capacity was enhanced through the installation of 41 new gullies and the replacement of 250 metres of failing kerbs and drainage channels. Accessibility and pedestrian safety were improved by refurbishing two uncontrolled crossing points, including those at Gresham Street and Staunton Street.

Further works included carriageway realignment, structural pavement replacement, new road markings and surface course finishing. Full traffic management was implemented throughout to ensure safety and minimise disruption on this strategic route around Lincoln.

Social Value

The scheme incorporated a series of social value activities, supporting both local employment and skills development. Approximately 25% of the workforce was sourced from within Lincolnshire, and the project created opportunities for early-career professionals, including a local graduate and two apprentices.

One apprentice undertook on-site experience as an Apprentice Engineer while completing Civil Engineering studies at Lincoln College.

Winvic also undertook community support activities in collaboration with Lincolnshire County Council. These included volunteering on improvement works at a local church garden and at Timberland Village. In addition, the project team made food donations to the Lincoln Foodbank.
