The scheme included dualling a 600-metre section of Willen Road from the M1 bridge to Marsh End Roundabout, along with highway upgrades to the Marsh End Roundabout and the A422 carriageway, widening the approaches from two lanes, to three. Additionally, two new signalised junctions were constructed on Willen Road to improve traffic flow and safety.

The initial works on Willen Road, both southbound and northbound, began with earthworks, over 3,000m of new drainage installation, and road construction to support the widening of the roundabout. The works were carried out offline, minimising disruption to traffic flow.

Collaboration

To enhance public transport accessibility, two new bus stops have been installed on Willen Road South, meeting Milton Keynes City Council (MKCC) standards and aligned to their design specifications. The roundabout is also fully signalised to optimise traffic management. Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) provided assistance by offering community liaison support to effectively distribute information.

Given the proximity of local farms and residences, close collaboration with MKCC and Newport Pagnell Town Council was essential to effectively manage the impact of the works. We also held two community engagement meetings with local residents to outline the planned works, highlight key interface areas, and discuss proposed mitigation measures. Additionally, notice letters were distributed to local councillors and neighbours to inform them of any upcoming changes.

  • 3,000m of new drainage

  • £12,000 spent with Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises

  • 100% of waste diverted from landfill, 96% recycled
