Winvic Construction Ltd has announced that its landmark Crown Place, Birmingham development has been shortlisted for Residential Development of the Year (more than 100 units) at the Insider Midlands Residential Property Awards.
Delivered for client Crown Student Living, alongside client’s agent Iesis, the scheme is the tallest Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) development in Birmingham standing at 33 storeys.
The award category recognises large residential developments that go beyond the norm, celebrating excellence in design, delivery and overall impact.
The shortlisting reflects Crown Place’s scale, technical complexity and the strength of its delivery on one of the most constrained sites in Birmingham city centre, where boundary clearances were as tight as 35mm. Through meticulous planning and disciplined programme management, Winvic successfully achieved programme certainty while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
This commitment to excellence was further recognised at the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards, where the project achieved the “Most Considerate” Site Award, the highest accolade, achieving consistently high scores alongside additional innovation and best practice points for its use of advanced technology and sustainable construction methods.
A highly collaborative approach between Winvic, Crown Student Living, Iesis and operator Yugo was central to the project’s success, enabling efficient decision-making, strong cost control and a high-quality end product aligned with the client’s vision.
Crown Place has been described as a flagship scheme by the client team, setting a new benchmark for PBSA delivery in Birmingham in terms of quality, amenity provision and operational readiness. Early leasing performance and strong occupancy levels further demonstrate the scheme’s success and long-term value.
The project also incorporated a range of innovative construction methods and digital technologies to enhance efficiency, build quality and safety, including the use of modern methods of construction and advanced digital tools to improve coordination, accuracy and programme certainty. This was complemented by a strong focus on sustainability and social value throughout delivery, from low-carbon construction approaches through to local employment, education engagement and community initiatives.
Combining landmark scale with innovation, collaboration and measurable outcomes, Crown Place stands out as a scheme that exemplifies best practice in large-scale residential development.
Mark Jones, Managing Director for Multi-Room at Winvic Construction, said: “We are delighted that Crown Place, Birmingham has been shortlisted for this prestigious award. The scheme represents a fantastic example of what can be achieved through strong collaboration, technical expertise and disciplined delivery in a highly constrained city centre environment. It is a real testament to the team’s commitment to innovation, safety and quality, and to the strong partnership we have developed with Crown Student Living and Iesis throughout the project.”
Alan Pulver, Director at Crown Student Living, said: “Crown Place has delivered an outstanding level of quality for student accommodation in Birmingham. Working in partnership with Winvic and Iesis, the project has been successfully delivered through strong collaboration and attention to detail, and this shortlisting is a welcome recognition of that achievement.”
David Steadman, Founding & Group Director at Iesis, said: “Crown Place Birmingham is a scheme that demonstrates what can be achieved when an experienced project team works collaboratively from the outset, including early contractor engagement. Despite the complexities of delivering a high-rise development on a highly constrained city centre site, the project has been delivered to an exceptional standard through strong communication, technical expertise and a shared commitment to quality. We are very proud to have supported Crown Student Living and Winvic in bringing this landmark development to life, and this shortlisting is thoroughly deserved recognition for everyone involved.”
The awards ceremony will take place in June in Birmingham, where the winner will be announced.
