DEVELOPING PEOPLE AS WELL AS PROJECTS, WINVIC JOINS THE 5% CLUB

Posted on February 11, 2026 in Careers and employment

Winvic Construction Ltd is strengthening its commitment to developing talent by joining The 5% Club, an industry initiative promoting apprenticeships and training opportunities to build a skilled workforce.

The 5% Club is a movement of more than 1,000 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents that make candidates more attractive to employers and create meaningful careers. Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students, and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover all sectors, including engineering, transport, and financial services.

The initiative was founded in 2013 and uses its platform and record of success to engage with policymakers and influencers on issues of concern and relevance, specifically increasing awareness and activity that links skills investment with discernible social impact.

By joining The 5% Club, Winvic is reinforcing its commitment to developing talent, investing in apprenticeships, graduate roles, and structured training programmes to address skill shortages in construction and support social mobility.

Winvic already supports early careers through partnerships with colleges, hosting T-Level students aged 16–19 on industry placements that provide hundreds of hours of hands-on experience across live projects in construction design, surveying, planning and engineering. Through its Enrichment Programme, students benefit from structured industry exposure, including site visits, practical activities and soft-skills development, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world site environments.

In addition, Winvic actively engages with schools, colleges and training providers through careers talks, CV workshops, mock interviews, STEM initiatives and site tours, raising awareness of construction career opportunities and inspiring young people to consider a future in the sector.

Passionate about its key areas of focus – People, Sustainability, Social Responsibility, and Innovation – Winvic ensures it is a happy, safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace, where every employee is given opportunities to grow through employee development. At the end of 2024, over 35,771 hours of training were delivered, with 11% of employees engaged in programmes including apprenticeships, industry placements, professional qualifications, and leadership development.

People and Resources Director, Rebecca Schwarz, said: “By investing in industry placements, apprenticeships, graduate roles, and careers outreach, and through our commitment as a member of The 5% Club, we’re supporting social mobility, creating clear career pathways, and helping to build a skilled, sustainable construction workforce for the future. Looking ahead, we will continue to expand our training, partnerships, and opportunities to ensure the next generation has the skills, confidence, and experience needed to thrive in our industry.”

Gill Cronin, Director of Operations of The 5% Club, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Winvic Construction Ltd into membership. The 5% Club provides a fantastic network of HR and L&D professionals, sharing and learning from each other. All our members share an ethos of creating a skilled workforce through ‘earn and learn’ development programmes, helping people develop meaningful career paths.”
