Latest A5 Hinckley traffic and travel updates
HINCKLEY A5 CONSTRUCTION
Winvic Construction Ltd have been appointed by MountPark to deliver an extensive S278 construction programme, making improvements to the public highway. These works will consist of additional lane capacity to Dodwells roundabout and a new signalised junction to be constructed to the east of Dodwells roundabout, for access into the Mountpark logistics park, and upgrades to the existing footway and cycleways.
Winvic, MountPark, National Highways and all contractors involved in the project will work to ensure any disruption to local residents, road users and businesses is minimised.
Site working hours will be Monday to Friday 07:00am to 18:00pm and 08:00am to 18:00pm on occasional Saturdays. Some off-peak nighttime working may take place between the hours of 20:00pm and 06:00 am. Vehicular traffic will be monitored, and major deliveries booked in to minimise disruption to local businesses and close neighbours. Dust and noise are being monitored throughout our works and we are working closely with the local authorities to manage our construction work as efficiently as possible.
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT UPDATE
Two full overnight closures of the A5 in both directions will take place between Dodwells Roundabout and Sketchley Roundabout on the 3rd and 4th of August 2026.
This is required to install narrow lanes and safety barriers, ensuring the safety of both the public and the workforce throughout the works. These works are required to establish the initial traffic management arrangements for construction activities at Dodwells Roundabout and Watling Street Road.
Access for local residents and businesses will be maintained, with traffic management operatives available to escort vehicles safely to their required destinations.
Alternative travel routes via the M69, M6 and M42 are in place for main HGV diverted traffic. Local diversion traffic will be diverted through Hinckley and communicated via signage.
SCOPE OF WORKS
A New Signalised T-Junction:
Construction of a new signalised T-Junction along the existing A5 Wattling Street Road at the entrance of the new MountPark Industrial and logistics development. Diversion of pre-existing services, new drainage, kerbs, street lighting, fully operational signalised junction and crossing points, including a new footway/cycleway along the existing northern verge and pavement reconstruction.
Improvements to Dodwells Roundabout:
Creation of additional lane capacity on the westbound approach to the roundabout and the southern half of Dodwells Roundabout. New drainage, kerbing, fencing, emergency access and pavement, and the relocation of current traffic signals and streetlighting.
Further works will take place, including the lowering of the existing carriage way under the Watling Bridge and signage adjustments. These works remain subject to final approval but will form part of the overall scope. Further details will be provided once approvals have been confirmed.
LEAVING A POSITIVE IMPACT
Throughout the construction of the new unit at the Mountpark Hinckley development, Winvic has delivered an extensive social value programme. So far, we have supported four educational events, including local careers fairs and mock interviews, hosted four Winvic apprentices/placement students, including a local T-Level placement and have over 45% of the workforce within a 30-mile radius.
We utilise local social enterprise Nuneaton Signs and recently supported Rugby Foodbank‘s AdLent campaign, donating over 180kg of vital food supplies. Winvic is committed to leaving a positive impact in the areas we work and will continue to deliver community initiatives throughout the S278 construction programme.
