“I completed my year in industry placement as a setting out engineer at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton, working on a 2.5km bypass, which enabled me to understand the basics of engineering. After finishing University, I returned to Winvic as a Graduate Engineer at Panattoni Park, Swindon. The project currently involves completing the infrastructure ready for the industrial units. I have gained lots of skills and have experienced working on many different elements of the project. I am involved in setting out, surveying and completing necessary quality documentation. Working as part of a supportive team and being out on site overseeing the work gives me a sense of pride. The site has lots of variety, and no day is ever the same, I am continually learning and challenging myself, which makes it such a rewarding job. Winvic have given me many opportunities and are a company that are willing to invest in its staff.”
“Be yourself and not to worry about what you know and what you don’t. Throughout my experience at Winvic everyone I have worked with is always happy to help, whether they’re people who directly work for Winvic or sub-contractors in the supply chain. There are always opportunities to learn and develop your skill set. Take every opportunity offered as Winvic is very supportive in letting their employees experience different parts of the business. When I started at Winvic I wanted to go into site management but since being at Winvic, I have enjoyed engineering role which I am currently doing. Being out on site from my very first day and being a valued member of the team is something I will always be grateful to Winvic for.”
Position: Site Engineer
Placement: Year in Industry Trainee Site Engineer between July 2020 and September 2021
Permanent Role Since: September 2022
Studied: BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering
“My journey with Winvic began with a Year in Industry placement and after I had completed my degree, I was delighted to be offered a graduate role. As a full-time employee, I have been working at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton and SEGRO Park Coventry, where I have been exposed to a variety of programmes, which has really helped me to continue developing my skills and knowledge.”
“One month before installing 420 metres of 1.65m stormwater drainage, I calculated materials for both the project Design Detail and Aqua Spira’s specifications, noting significant differences. I highlighted cost, carbon, and installation benefits while prioritising safety, and the team worked with BWB and Aqua Spira to update the manufacturer’s Detail, which guided the final installation. Winvic is always keen to reward those who can demonstrate their skills and commitment, and I’ve particularly enjoyed having the responsibility of managing and mentoring an Apprentice and a Year in Industry student.”
“I’ve also been able to share my passion by engaging with college and secondary school students, inspiring them about the world of civils and infrastructure and explaining the construction careers available. I’m also grateful that Winvic has supported me in beginning my ICE Incorporated Engineer Chartership – it’s a company that strives to help everyone be the best that they can be.”
“Don’t get too worried because everyone is on your side, and they understand you’re learning. There isn’t a single person who doesn’t genuinely want to help me progress – even after two years in my graduate position. Asking questions is how you learn faster and there isn’t such a thing as a stupid question.”
